I’ve officially become a television scriptwriter!
Well, I narrated an episode for this show I’m a writer on to the channel a few days back and I guess if that doesn’t prove it, I don’t know what will!
Though I have to tell you, it was a nerve wracking experience! Sitting in front of a Channel Programming Head, reading dialogues that I thought were hilarious (and silently praying that she would think the same).
What was also strange was being on the other side of the table, being judged, when all my career I’ve been judging creatives who were reading out concepts or film scripts.
Its wayy tougher.
Judging is easier and has comparatively lesser investment than creating. And while you do earn the judging chair, I’m at the moment, quite pleased to be sitting on the ‘creative’ side.
It’s strangely more fulfilling. I’m written just 2 episodes for this series, but even then feel an overwhelming amount of ownership of my work and love the feeling of having created a moment that a few thousands, in not millions of people will watch.
It also gave me a chance to understand the art of writing dialogue and story construction, which until now I had not given much thought to.
On the other hand, my Teach for India experience is going fabulously as well, where I’m sitting quite cosily on the other side, briefing agencies and expecting sharp, well thought proposals.
Though, clearly the latter doesn’t come by so easily and I continue to be surprised how so many agencies in India comb through briefs in such a passion-less way.
But thats another post. And soon 🙂
