While work is on full throttle for crowd funding, I am yet to find peace with a single vocation.
So lets look back, shall we? Since I’ve cut loose, I’ve written content for apps and websites, done graphic designing and created infographics, did a marketing plan for a non profit serving injured armed forces personnel (Which I believe is not going to see the light of day anytime soon), a marketing plan for a sports marketing company (which I believe will not have the budgets to execute any plan anytime soon), wrote a script for a fashion based TV show, started writing a TV show (WIP) and learnt a bit of commercial photography.
My favourite bit so far has been writing the TV script, which was an absolute thrill and a huge learning experience. And I’m aching to do more work in that field now.
So, I’ve been stalking friends and family who have the remotest filmy connections to help me get a break. A meeting with a well known production house or a fledgling one, a producer, a show creator, a channel.. basically anyone who can help me get an audition for writing a show.
I don’t want the money (not just yet). I don’t want the fame (that can wait too). I just want to write a show that people see and maybe love a little bit.
In the words of Julia Roberts, in the classic Notting Hill.
“I’m just a girl. Standing in front of a TV exec. Asking him to please give her the one chance to write a goddamm show!”
I’m pretty sure these were the exact same words she spoke.
I don’t know. Maybe its the Tina Fey obsession. Or lately the strange admiration for Amy Schumer whose guts I adore.
But I want to write. Write funny shows. Shows where women aren’t seen as mannequins but as real people with emotions. Where emotions aren’t just equal to tears shed / total number of times abused by in-laws, instead are about laughing at ones self.. Where humour is in discovering the lighter side of life and not falling flat on your face and abusing your ugly wife (has anyone seen Comedy Nights with Kapil lately!)
You get the picture, right?
I also want to write a picture by the way, but that I suppose will take some more time.
Meanwhile, I’ve been shooting mails to all corners of the world for a TV/Digital script writing opportunity. If you haven’t received it yet, then you’re either someone who I know has no connection to the industry, or you’re just not refreshing your inbox hard enough.
I know I am. In anticipation for an opportunity.
Set me up with someone you know who knows someone. Will you?
