Today began with a thud. Literally. I woke up at 5:30 am to the sounds of my baby crying , while on the floor. He’d rolled off while sleeping… and today is his 7th month birthday! Started the day with the bang, eh?
I was told by many wise parents this would happen, so I wasn’t surprised, but I wasn’t prepared either.
So I shouted louder than him and my parents rushed in and we checked for bumps and signs of concussion. All ok, he giggled and then we tried to sleep again.
But that thud made me think that I probably don’t have it all under my control after all. I mean, if after sleeping within a fortress of pillows my baby can climb above my head and push the pillows to fall to the floor, what am I even thinking about if I think I can do something breakthrough with my career without having a job?!
Ok I know the two aren’t connected. But what I mean to say is, what’s stopping me from from falling flat on my face ?
Got up a little while later. Mummy bathed, baby bathed, breakfast eaten, car loaded with shoot stuff and off to the studio that’s pretty close to my moms place.
I entered Randomcaptures and was welcomed by Aris. The studio is behind a custom shoe shop called Jim Dandy (which is incredible by the way!) and had lighting and photography gear which I didn’t even know existed (‘and she wants to be a photographer?!’)
Aris like me had quit a corporate job to start off as a photographer and now has a studio he rents out for shoots. The owner of the shoe shop, Roopam turned out be an incredibly sweet lady who popped in once in a while to check out the shoot. She too. had also quit her teaching job after 10 years to pursue an ‘interest’ in leather.. Which has now turned out to be a fantastic shoe and leather accessory design business 3 years later.
I love meeting people like them. Correction- I really need to meet people like them because they are a sign that people who cut loose can fly. Eventually, atleast.
So I began taking my first shots and initially felt completely lost with the new equipment, but very slowly and maybe 30 clicks later I began to feel my feet again.
I was shooting Artfeat Designs table top stuff today and it was starting to look good.
While we were setting up another sequence , ‘light chali gayi‘ . So we waited but she didn’t return for the next half an hour. I was almost packing to leave when it came back. So I decided to take some overhead shots which I had wanted to and got trigger happy again.
Finally closed at 3:30 ( was supposed to finish off by 2 since I’d paid only for half a day!) with a handful of shots I like. I mean they’re plain product shots on a white background, so no Raghu Rai-ism happened today, but atleast I didn’t screw them up entirely!
Will be back there next Tuesday to shoot more of his stuff, including chairs!!
Good day. Exhausted though. Baby bumped his head in the evening again while he was crawling on the floor 😦 . What am I going to do?! He’s sleeping now and I’m on guard.. Have blankets all around the periphery of the bed, just in case he sleep-crawls again! Will let you know… 🙂
