So I’ve been talking a lot to my friends and colleagues and discussing ideas on how I can get started and take on different assignments. Everyone has a different approach when it comes to entrepreneurship and its fascinating to listen to all these different points of view.
There are people who manage to balance a ‘day-job’ along with a secret love affair with what they want to do most. A friend of mine at work, clocks in 9-6 at the office and goes back home to his band every evening where he is the lead singer. He’s recently shot a video and recorded a single. Another friend is a consultant during the day and turns wedding photographer on weekends.
And there are countless who follow their passions without any desire for money of course. The media managers who run marathons and cycle 20 km to work everyday, and the consumer services head who studies furiously in the evenings to learn a new language, The business head who used to RJ in the early mornings and the social media managers who are food critics every time they head out for a meal.
Its insanely inspiring. Also, very jealousy inducing. Because I simply can’t do both.
I’ve tried to, I won’t say I haven’t. But its never been consistent. I started product photography for friends with small businesses and that used to be fun. Then there was a phase when I was baking everyday and blogging about it (made for some very loyal friends and an especially great appraisal ;)) Stopped when I put on 3 kgs.
The problem with me is that I stop too soon. Always pull the breaks much before the speed-breaker comes. Could be fear, boredom, restlessness .. I really don’t know.
Interestingly I also came across this quote on Pinterest today.
I think Mr Disney is trying to tell me something.
So I’ll listen to him and take the day off work tomorrow (why am I even going there anymore!) and get some things done. Such as take more photographs (which could potentially go into the portfolio), book a studio where I’ll shoot my friend’s incredible lifestyle products next week , talk to some more startups to see if we can work together…
Am a little nervous that I may have taken on too much on my plate (picture a plate at a Delhi shaadi). Need to make sure I’m every bit as good as I’ve made myself believe.
Will keep you posted.
